Interview with Janika Scherbaum, Young Professional at Melchers Group

Please tell us how you came to the Melchers Group.

I was already familiar with the Melchers company beforehand because it has its headquarters here in Bremen and is so diverse. I then applied for a dual study program four years ago. At Melchers, I knew that I could get to know many different areas. This is a great basis for an apprenticeship.

What makes Melchers an exciting employer?

The history of the Melchers Group makes the company very special for me. Since it was founded in 1806, there have been many changes, all of which have been successfully mastered. You can learn a lot from history and experience. Even today, I experience the Melchers Group as very dynamic and very open to further developments. The world is changing faster and faster and therefore it is important to be able to adapt and be flexible.

Why did you decide on a dual study program?

I think the idea of dual training is great. I was immediately enthusiastic about it because the theoretical basics are combined directly with practice. This gives you a solid education and prepares you in the best possible way for starting your career.

Where did you spend your semester abroad and what were you able to take away from this time?

I am very grateful for my semester abroad in 2019. Thanks to the international activities of the Melchers Group, I was able to go to Hong Kong for almost half a year. There I was able to gain great experience at the subsidiary Happy People GmbH & Co. KG, met great people and got to know the company from a different perspective. The supplier visits in China gave me an exciting insight. This allowed me to develop an understanding of East Asian culture. The experiences abroad give me a new perspective on the global economy and the interrelationships.

What does your future look like at Melchers?

I am very excited to start my position in the Digital Office in March. The Digital Office deals with the development of new digital business for the Melchers Group. There I will mainly be involved in project management. This young department of the Melchers Group gives an insight into many different topics of the group and promotes the digital business - so that the Melchers Group will be successful and digital in the future.
